You might have heard there was a snow storm across the Northeastern seaboard. A bunch of flights were canceled. People were stranded in random cities, airports and grandma’s houses that they were desperate to leave. Statewide disasters were declared. I understand this situation really sucked for a lot of people, but I have to say HOLY CRAP THANKS BLIZZARD!
We had our first ever white Christmas in Atlanta.
My Monday AM flight was canceled, but I found this out online before driving to the airport. My flight was rebooked for the earliest return Thursday PM, but I was staying at my mother’s house therefor no hotel costs (and free meals)! I missed the work week, but my boss was incredibly understanding about the situation and although I offered to work Friday or this weekend it wasn’t needed.
I got to see friends I would have missed in the shorter trip. I spent extra quality time with friends and family. Last night when I was checking-in at the airport I realized I had been rebooked to a First Class seat with no extra charge. By the time I got back to NYC the streets were relatively clear and even my front stoop had already been shoveled out.
I was so lucky for the past week I almost feel embarrassed. When you can find joy spending time with family, friends and a supportive job you know it’s been a good year. Here’s to a lucky 2011! /bragging.
